Just 30 minutes north of Angoulême lies a site unique in Europe, the “La Motte de la Jacquille” megalith. Opened to visitors only in 2014, it dates back to 5000 BC and features a typical Angoumois tumulus layout. With its long stone corridor, burial chamber and covering table, you'll want to pay close attention to every detail. A stone door that turns on its hinges can also be seen at the Musée d'Angoulême, an ingenious device that was unique for its time.
